Curriculum
GCA believes that every child is unique, and its curriculum caters to the different needs of each individual child. This is made possible by the individualized program the Academy deliberately designs. As the Founder believes in the importance of character development, which determines success, GCA strives to incorporate the training of character building into every area of the teaching, from academics to physical education, from arts to the teaching of life skills. As students are trained from their Primary years to Secondary through the in-depth, enriched, and extensive curriculum, they will be groomed to reach their full potential academically, physically, emotionally, socially, and spiritually. Students graduating with the High School diploma will be able to apply directly to their college or university of choice, both locally and internationally, and the character and life skills training that they have received will continue to assist them in their future lives and careers.

Academic Program
Individualized Bible and Character-Based Christian Academic Program in English and Chinese
The core curriculum GCA uses is the Accelerated Christian Education Program (A.C.E.), which originates in Texas, U.S.A. and has been used world-wide for more than 50 years. The curriculum is individualized, Bible- and character-based. In the Primary years, the subjects begin with English, Literature and Creative Writing, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, and Word Building. At higher levels, the subjects expand to include Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Civics, Economics, Trigonometry and Pre-Calculus, including Electives, such as Speech, Music, Health, Computer Science, and Personal Finance. There are about 6-12 workbooks, or PACEs, per subject depending on the level, and students progress accordingly from Level 1 to 12, that is, from Primary to Secondary. Each PACE also contains teachings on one of the 90 Character Traits as portrayed by Jesus Christ and the respective Bible verse for that character trait for students to learn, memorize and internalize in their everyday living. An additional advantage of this curriculum is that students further develop both left and right brain simultaneously, as students get to study all streams of education including Arts, Business, and Science. Just like how God is always doing something new and is raising us higher (Isaiah 43:19), students’ intellect and potential are not fixed, but can be shaped. When the brain is challenged intellectually, more connections are formed in the brain, which activates faster processing between the two cerebral hemispheres, resulting in more intelligent and creative functioning, as well as greater overall proficiency. This is called “whole brain integration”, which leads to alternate problem solving, and is extremely useful and beneficial for students.
As part of the global trend, Chinese is taught in Mandarin with simplified characters. Besides closely monitoring students’ communication and presentation skills through various poems and articles to train them to be effective and eloquent communicators, students learn to use simplified characters while maintaining their awareness and association with traditional characters to enable them to thrive in the local environment. A portion of the passages in the program are specially composed or selected for deepening the historical knowledge and patriotic spirit of the students, encouraging a sense of belonging to their motherland and a heart to serve their country.

Through the drilling, repetitive training, and reinforcement of the fundamentals of speaking and memorization techniques, students also learn about correct body posture, facial expression and the importance of eye contact. This leads to students being able to perform or present speeches in public without stage fright.

Physical Program
Physical Education
The Physical Education curriculum is focused around important Christian character traits such as perseverance, obedience and self-discipline that are relevant for sportsmen to train, in order to increase their athleticism and reach their goals. It is tailor-made to meet the different needs of each individual student. Through a variety of physical-training and team-building activities, such as athletics, ball sports, and worship dance (a form of dance incorporating various styles of body movement for the training of coordination and refined balance, while moving to the rhythm of Christian-themed music); students are able to grow in their health and strength, optimize their God-given gifts and talents, and develop leadership skills as they reach their full potential.

Interact Club
Interact Club is an interactive session where students learn to play, interact, and engage with one another in a friendly, gentle, and respectful manner. Playing and socializing are important aspects in children’s lives, and as the students enjoy playing together, they are given opportunities to apply the character traits that they have learnt. Students are assigned to play in various groups as well as with different toys or board games based on their age and capability. Examples include puzzles for focus and sharing, building games for teamwork and flexibility, and competitive games for integrity, equity, and humility, and in the process, students learn to be “humble winners” and “cheerful losers”. Students who complete their assigned game and would like to exchange their game are encouraged to reach a unanimous decision within their group before exchanging, which is also a good lesson on communication and mutual respect and understanding.

Experiential Learning Programs
Community Service
After learning how to respect, love and serve one another in the classroom, students are given opportunities to live out these character traits in public, such as through serving the elderly in a nursing home. Through community services, students develop a sense of responsibility, and the virtues of caring for and serving the needy in the community with Christ-like love.

Field Trip and Outdoor Education
Inspired by the concept of borderless classroom, GCA extends the classroom into nature and the public domain to enable students to apply what they have learned at the Academy into a wider spectrum of environments and circumstances. As students are groomed to become servant leaders, as well as respectable men and women in society, having them practice their leadership skills, social etiquette, and Christian character traits in a wide range of realistic environments will enable them to internalize these skills and values. In the process, the students also enjoy bonding time with their schoolmates as they learn about various themes such as interdependence and teamwork, culture, history, technology, conservation, and sustainability of nature, and more.

Student Conventions
After being trained in all areas and skills, GCA believes in granting students opportunities to participate in competitions so that students will be encouraged, inspired, and motivated, and will grow in the character traits of commitment, dedication, patience, and strive for excellence. The National Student Convention (NSC) is held annually with over 500 students from various schools from all over the country to compete with one another in various competitions, as well as to be inspired by the powerful rallies in the evenings. Medalists from the NSC are eligible to compete at the International Student Convention (ISC), which is usually held in America. Approximately 4,000 young people worldwide qualify through regional conventions to compete in the categories of academics, art, athletics, music, and platform, in up to 120 Christian competitive events, such as archery, chess, drama, and preaching, etc. As students gather and compete in these week-long conventions and attend the evening Christian rallies, they grow more intimately in their relationship with God, learn to glorify Him with their talents and achievements, as well as share valuable experiences and build meaningful friendships.

Remote Learning Program
Teaching Arrangement during COVID-19
GCA’s unique and individualized curriculum has taken on new levels of success during the COVID-19 pandemic, where face-to-face classes were suspended by the Education Bureau on several occasions. During such challenging times with many uncertainties, GCA was able to further emphasize its belief of “school being an extension of the home”, empower parents to facilitate their child’s learning through close and frequent communication between home and school, and provide the appropriate remote learning solutions for each child, customized to their individual needs. As parents were encouraged and guided by the teachers to boldly monitor their child’s academics, life skills, and physical and spiritual development at home, many wonderful testimonies were witnessed in the growth of the students. Therefore, students’ academics progressed and did not deteriorate, due to the dedicated partnership of teachers and parents. Some students even expedited in all areas of growth due to their well-developed Christian character traits of self-discipline, independence, diligence, and determination.
This is the beauty of GCA’s individualized curriculum, not only is it tailor-made to bring out the best of every student, but it has also been proven to withstand the pandemic.
